In collaboration with Hangar Teatri, Bottega Errante Edizioni, Servi di Scena’s project Mateârium, Union of Slovenian cultural (centersZveza Slovenskih Kulturnih Drustev)

organises

the first edition of the WORDS BEYOND” CONTEST,
pursuing the promotion of contemporary dramaturgy.

“Words Beyond” is the first dramaturgy and translation contest organised by Teatro degli Sterpi in collaboration with Hangar Teatri (Trieste) and open to Italian, Austrian, Slovenian and Croatian citizens. We were inspired by the natural borders the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region shares with Austria, Slovenia, and, more broadly, with the Balkan peninsula, and we ended up asking ourselves a question which is everything but trivial: where exactly is this region? Likewise, we have wondered: where exactly are we? And who/what is there on the other side? This land is not easy to define, it is a crossroads of different cultures, ethnicities and nations. It seemed to us a very accurate mirror of the time and atmosphere we are experiencing, a land constantly evolving and perpetually changing, a land whose borders are blurred. So, who are we today? And where are we exactly? On which border?

“Words Beyond” will evaluate texts belonging to 4 different categories, i.e. Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia. The winners will receive a money prize. Furthermore, selected passages of their works will be read during the awards ceremony. In addition, the Austrian, Slovenian and Croatian texts will be translated into Italian free of charge, and all texts will be published in a collection edited by Bottega Errante.
